In Wall Speakers
'In wall speakers' are all about the housing as well as wall mounted speakers. Most of the 'in wall speakers' are too small to incorporate a decent number of drivers. In wall speakers are designed to work as the surround units of multi channel systems or as the 2 channel units for the stereo.
In Wall Speakers - The Surround Sound
For the surround sound, the 'in wall speakers' require a single midrange-driver (loudspeaker). 'In wall speakers' will not generate low frequency sounds. Thus, the good quality Jazz or Blues is out of question in this audio speakers setup. The idea of the rear 'in wall speakers' is purely to supplement the main sounds. However, you have to be very careful where you install the 'in wall speakers'. The location of these units is permanent and any changes will require serious renovations.
In Wall Speakers - The Stereo
The setup for the stereo (for example a music or TV) is less detrimental than the setup for the surround speakers. Here, you do not require a perfect rear-sound effects. As long as you can hear clearly the radio or TV the 'in wall speakers' can stay where they are. 'In wall speakers' are also larger than their surround sound counterparts. The stereo system of 'in wall speakers' will have 2 drivers: 1 tweeter and 1 woofer/midrange. The more expensive option may offer more complex designs but these can be too heavy for the plaster walls.
In Wall Speakers - Installation
Always ensure that your walls can handle the weight of your 'in wall speakers'. If your house has plaster boards then the expendable screws are paramount. Otherwise you must look for the stud. There are also serious cautions about the wiring. Generally, you do not need to call experts to connect signal cables behind your walls. However, the 'in wall speakers' which use the power cord do require a licensed electrician. The reason is simple - electrical signal will not hurt you but the power line is lethal.
