DJ Speakers

DJ speakers - is it enough to run my own DJ business? What else do I need? How much do I need to spend on the DJ speakers and other equipment? A lot of people think that DJs are cool looking music dudes with some attitude. But this could not be further from the truth. In fact, the DJ is a music nerd who understands the needs of the cool guys. He is also an exceptional expert to compose and mix various sounds. There is no real school for DJs. The only solution is to have a talent and plenty of practice!

Those who have enough inner-soul for the job may not have enough money to start the business. However, you may not need all the tools to initiate the career. If you own the mixer, you may only need DJ speakers, some cabling and stands. Unfortunately, amplifier DJ speakers are quite expensive. Another option is to buy cheaper, passive DJ speakers and drive them from the external amplifier. Nonetheless, whatever option you use you are about to blow a grand or so on the medium range DJ audio equipment.

DJ Speakers - The Basics

The basic DJ setup requires a mixer/amplifier, 2 DJ speakers, 2 speaker stands and 2 Neutrik connector cables. The medium to low range quality of this arrangement is about $1000-$1500. You can buy passive or active DJ speakers (amplifier speakers). However, the passive units require a well matched amplifier.

For example, you can damage 200W DJ speakers if you run them from 1000W amplifier. n the other hand, a cheap 200W amp will not have enough juice to drive 100W DJ speakers. Of course, you do not need to limit yourself at two audio speakers. You can get bass bins, surround sound and monitoring wedges. But this will "burn" few grand of your pocket money (or should I say - the salary).

DJ Speakers - Prices

DJ setup does not require the elaborate surround sound system, wedges and bins. The simple stereo will do fine but those other extras will certainly boost the appearance. The good quality active DJ speakers can easily exceed $1000 per pair. A cheaper option can cost $600 and is sufficient for home and school parties. 400W passive DJ speakers sell for as little as $120 per pair. However, you do need a matching amplifier to run this duet. A decent set which contains an amplifier and the pair of DJ speakers costs around $600. This will not be the top of the range product but sufficient for most applications.
