Desktop Speakers
Desktop Speakers
Desktop speakers come with every PC today. Desktop speakers can be boosted with 5.1, 6.1 and 7.1 surround setups (see section on home theatre). However, these surround sound configuration are impractical and pricey for a number of reasons:
- Desktop computer causes enough interference and mechanical noise to reduce the sound quality
- The setup of the surround systems is also bulky and impractical for the desktop computer arrangement
- The price of the desktop speakers surround system often reaches that of the computer
- For most cases you will have to buy 2 desktop speaker's surround systems: one for your computer, the other for the lunchroom listening. Otherwise, it will make no sense to have the best system in your study
Desktop Speakers Prices
We would recommend a straightforward 2.0 (stereo) or 2.1 (stereo and the subwoofer) system.
These desktop speakers have been known as the sound blaster.
Today, these stereo desktop speakers are fully sufficient for the computer sound.
The quality of these audio desktop speakers is also very good.
If you buy the 2.1 system then the subwoofer box will have a built-in amplifier to drive the stereo units.
For a simple 2.0 setup (no subwoofer) you either need an additional amplifier or very good quality desktop speakers.
Currently, the Audioengine speakers are the best for the plain stereo.
They do not require an external amplifier (they are the amplifier speakers).
The sound of these units is absolutely fantastic.
However, the quality comes with the price.
The great quality desktop speakers can cost $350.
However, the bulk of very good desktop speakers will still fit into $150 range (M-Audio, Harman/Kardon, Logitech etc.).
Wireless Desktop Speakers
You can use wireless desktop speakers in your computer. In fact there is no difference between wired and wireless option when it comes to the sound quality. However, the wireless speakers will cost more for the same sound quality. Here, it is better to pay extra for the quality good speakers rather than functionality. Your stereo desktop speakers should be placed in front of you. Thus, there is no reason to spend that extra buck for the wireless flexibility.
